The
opportunity to integrate the personal |

Vision Statement We believe that life has purpose and meaning, growth and change are possible, and in compassionate and caring counselling relationships healing can occur. Pastoral Counselling Education offers the opportunity to integrate the personal, theoretical, and spiritual into effective clinical practice. Group Learning Division approaches education from an adult experiential learning model in which each person’s personal and professional experience is essential to their learning process. Learning occurs in a peer group where theological and psychological theory is studied and case material is discussed. Students have the opportunity to work on personal issues, which impact their learning and counselling process, as well. Students begin working with individual clients, varying in ages and presenting with a variety of issues. Students learn how to initiate and maintain a therapeutic relationship, the use of self in the counselling process, and administrative skills. Students have time individually with their supervisor to discuss their work with clients and their personal integration of theology and the human sciences. Basic
Pastoral Counselling Education (PCE) is offered in a forty week extended
unit running from September to June. Students meet together for five hours
of seminar one day per week. As well, they receive one hour of individual
supervision weekly. Students are also responsible for seeing 7-9 clients
per week. |
