Expressive Arts Therapy |
|
“Talking about” is one way to express ourselves in therapy, but expression does not end there. We can also draw, paint, sculpt, write, gesture, sit in silence, and move to express what is “true” for us. Art therapy addresses the whole person in therapy – the physical, sensory, imaginal, intellectual, emotive, and spiritual/transcendent. When we engage in creative “sense-making” we are given the tools to expand our repertoire of responses – our habits, assumptions, and recurring stories – to allow for greater freedom, understanding, and self-reflection. Art therapists work with children, adolescents, adults, couples, families, groups, and special populations, and are trained to apply their training to a wide range of client needs and situations. Art therapy is also a valuable treatment alternative for those who do not respond well to verbal therapies. For more information about art therapy please see http://www.catainfo.ca/. |
