The Community Counselling Centre

is a committed team of qualified professionals.

Most people at some point in their lives experience a need for change.  The desire for change or the need to feel better often opens the door for healing and growth to take place.

Our goal is to guide and facilitate you through the process of healthy healing and growth. We help you to work through issues in a compassionate and down-to-earth manner. We conduct our business with integrity and professionalism, and we honour our professional code of ethics.

You are invited to be active in your own healing process.  You are encouraged to reflect on you personal issues and integrate your feelings and thoughts with compassion and understanding.  A variety of short, medium and long-term counselling options are available based on your particular need.

We specialize in Pastoral Counselling – a relational, client focused approach to counselling – and we are experienced in working with people who want to develop healthy, meaningful lives and relationships.  We are certified with our respective professional associations.  Graduate interns in the Masters of Arts in Pastoral Psychology and Counselling program at St. Stephen’s College also see clients under supervision.

MARIE POWERS is a Pastoral Counselling Specialist, certified by the Canadian Association for Pastoral Practice and Education (CAPPE/ACPEP) since 1995. She is co-founder and current director of the Community Counselling Centre, formerly known as the Pastoral Counselling Group.

Marie’s background as a registered nurse and later as hospital chaplain, exposed her to a myriad of life situations in her role as team leader, clinical instructor and spiritual care provider in all hospital departments. She developed knowledge and skills which now serve her well as she takes into consideration all aspects of a client’s life.

As a certified BodyTalk and Reiki Level II Practitioner, Marie provides a form of therapy which integrates energy balancing into her counselling practice with positive results. More recently, Marie studied Human Systems and Family Constellations work developed by German psychotherapist and philosopher, Bert Hellinger. As a Systemic Constellations Facilitator, Marie invites clients to the possibility of a deep and full resolution of longstanding issues.

Human Systems and Family Constellations involves a phenomenological way of facilitating an individual, couple, family or group/organization, finding balance both internally and externally. Using representation (individuals standing in for others and reporting their emotional and energetic responses), entanglements in the system are identified and a movement toward freedom becomes possible.

His areas of interests include: recovery from abuse/trauma/neglect, dissociation, couple counseling, addictions, spiritual growth, parenting, men’s issues and the role of Nature in healing and health.

MARGARET WOOFF is a BodyTalk practitioner certified by the International BodyTalk Association. Margaret is a strong advocate for an integrated balanced lifestyle that supports a client’s capacity to heal. Illnesses, accidents, addictions, conflict, depression and other health concerns stem from imbalances in the whole body-mind-spirit energy system. To address these imbalances, Margaret uses a comprehensive method called BodyTalk with her clients. By re-establishing energy pathways between affected parts, the body is able to heal itself as nature intended. Using BodyTalk, Margaret accesses resources from eastern and western medicine, while drawing from ancient and modern principles of healing. Margaret’s relational approach to her work with clients is informed by her education and experience in nursing, pastoral care and counselling, by her social awareness, and by her reflections on the whole of life.
